Pete Edwards, Safeguarding Link Governor
For the past 16 years I have had various roles linked to safeguarding for both children and adults.
As Sports Development Officer for Nottinghamshire County Council, specialising in disability and inclusion, I had the lead for Safeguarding Disabled people. As part of this I worked with the Child Protection Sports Unit of the NSPCC in developing a resource to support coaches working with Deaf and Disabled Children.
For the last 13 years I have been tutoring safeguarding courses for Sports Coach UK and now UK Coaching. As part of this I do 2/3 webinars and a conference per year to keep updated and current.
As part of my regional role to Special Olympics (SO) East Midlands I was the safeguarding lead for the region and SO Derbyshire and attended the SO national games as safeguarding lead for the region.
I am the safeguarding lead for All Saints Church Clipstone and a tutor for one of the safeguarding courses for the Southwell and Nottingham Diocese safeguarding team. I’m also part of the network of safeguarding leads around the diocese.
I’m also part of a multi faith group working with Nottinghamshire Police looking at safeguarding places of worship.
As well as this, I have received training for safeguarding adults through Ann Craft Trust and training as part of my volunteer for as local charity who work with adults with Dementia, Alzheimer’s and other memory loss.
